A Medium Access Control Protocol for Radio over Fiber Wireless LAN operating in the 60-GHz Band

چکیده
Radio over fiber (RoF) technology has been suggested as a cost-effective solution to meet modern ever increasing user bandwidth demands and mobility. A system based on this technology has properties quite different from those of conventional WLAN systems in that every room in a building hosts at least one picocell having its own base station (BS). Thus a challenging problem lies in the medium access control (MAC) protocol design so that it can support QoS requirements as well as a fast and simple handover. In this paper a MAC protocol based on frequency switching (FS) codes is proposed, and constraints on some important parameters of it are examined. Six variants of the MAC protocol are proposed and discussed.

The millimeter (mm)-wave band (from 30 to 300 GHz) is the focus of considerable academic and industrial interest because it can support high-speed and large-capacity information transmission. New applications, such as ultrahigh-speed wireless local area networks (WLAN), wireless home-links, and indoor multiplex television broadcasting for indoor environments, as well as fixed wireless access, b...
متن کاملRadio-over-Fiber based architecture for seamless wireless indoor communication in the 60GHz band
In order to satisfy the increasing demand of wireless broadband multimedia services, much attention has been paid to the 60 GHz band where as much as 5 GHz of spectrum has been reserved. However, in the indoor environment, the propagation of signals at this millimeter wave band is strongly hindered by walls, people and their movement, furniture, etc. As a result, a mobile user might experience ...
متن کاملA Full-Duplex, Dual-Polarization 10Gbps Radio over Fiber system with wavelength reuse for upstream signal
This study presents a full-duplex Radio-over-Fiber (RoF) system providing the users' wireless access with a bit rate of 10 Gbps over 40 GHz radio carrier. This system can be used in a centralized radio access network (C-RAN) architecture because we provide a fully analog front haul link between central station and base station. We can consider it as infrastructure between remote radio heads (RR...
متن کاملAn ATM-Based Indoor Millimeter-Wave Wireless LAN for Multimedia Transmissions∗
Developments in new frequency bands for wireless communications make a broadband channel for new services possible. Great effort has been made researching and developing broadband wireless communication in the 60-GHz millimeterwave band since the early 1990s. In this paper, we design an ATM (asynchronous transfer mode)-based indoor millimeterwave wireless local area network (WLAN) that supports...
